Puzzle #746, Twilight of the Wienerschnitzel
From an oil painting by Kim Reasor

This puzzle, Twilight of the Wienerschnitzel, features for the first time in the project Kim Reasor an artist at Mixed Media Gallery and Studios, where I have my puzzle shop, a currently a painter of urban landscapes with an automotive emphasis.

In this work, a Wienerschnitzel restaurant is the central focus, located in one of those scenes typical of older urban sprawl on a busy road with auto repair shops, fast food stores, billboards, neon and general ennui. Kim was recently written up in the San Diego Union-Tribune, and this painting may be seen in the background of the picture accompanying the article [link later removed by the Tribune]. The scene is located in San Diego, a few miles from where I live.

As it happened (from my Journal archives)

August 7, 2007

Tuesday 9:16 pm - Finally mounted the print for #746, Twilight of the Wienerschnitzel. I expect to do some cutting tomorrow. I'll also get some better pictures of the Mourning Dove chicks.

August 8, 2007

Wednesday 4:44 pm - I received a call from Erin at Mixed Media, she told me that yesterday the two Morning Dove chicks had left the nest and were on the ground and occasionally flying short distances! Today she saw them on the roof and later some wires. So, so quickly in an order of a month, a nest was built, eggs laid, hatched, the chicks raised and now gone! Total success.

I did not get to the shop today, choosing to focusing on this website instead.

Sunday 5:55 pm - Went to the shop for the first time in a week for a little while this afternoon. I trimmed the borders for the August eBay puzzle, Twilight of the Wienerschnitzel. So work on this puzzle is finally on its way during these lazy days of summer! Tomorrow I plan do spend a good portion of the day at the shop, with a goal of completing the puzzle on Tuesday. The puzzle will have one figural, a telephone pole with a transformer. Auction will launch on Wednesday.

Tuesday 6:16 pm - In a focused effort of four cutting sessions, today I completed #746, Twilight of the Wienerschnitzel, the 69th puzzle of the long running 100 Puzzles Project. Hot again: 93 outside, 97 inside, lots of sweat! Anyway the puzzle came out looking good. I will launch the auction tomorrow and will post the final piece count. Funny, immediately after I finished cutting the puzzle, I went to Mixed Media's garden and slept for about a half hour and when I woke up, it was quite a bit cooler.

Puzzle #746 reverse - a very nice cut, no chip-outs on the back
