Puzzle 812 - Chrysanthemums Oriental
White areas cut in Creative, the flowers cut in Long Round

As it happened (from my Journal archives)

October 23, 2008

Thursday 9:39 pm - Tomorrow I'll design the figural set and border for #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental the remaining puzzle to do for the Puzzle Parlay and the one which I'll be auctioning. The print measures 18" by 24". I expect to do at least the initial cutting tomorrow. Saturday, performance day, I'll be taking off. Then an intense cutting marathon starts Sunday with goal to complete the puzzle by Wednesday afternoon. The background, which is pinker than shown in the picture will be cut in an elaborate Creative style, the flower arrangement and vase will be cut in Long Round.

Friday 7:11 pm - I designed a wavy border for #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental, selected several standard figurals from my library, went to the shop and did the initial cutting and did the border and just a few pieces. I've narrowed the estimated piece range from 500-1000 to 700-800. The flower arrangement will be cut in Long Round in regular sized pieces (about 2 to 2.1 pieces per square inch), and the background in Creative; I'm currently thinking at about 1.4-1.5 Creative pieces per square inch, my usual size for major Creative style puzzles (my plain wood "art" puzzles have about 1 Creative piece per square inch).

Sunday 5:18 pm - Last Friday I divided the board for #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental, into four sections of roughly equal areas with a goal of cutting one section per day over a four day period starting today. With a lot of perseverance I got the first section done today, cutting going well. I've been pushing myself a lot this month, spurred on by the upcoming Puzzle Parley deadline and the prospect of a new era of less work for the foreseeable future. I'll have pictures after the puzzle is done.

Monday 6:06 pm - Groundhog Day (time loop) continues - I was at the shop almost all day and completed another quarter of #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental, cutting continues to go well. Tomorrow the marathon continues with a goal of cutting the third quarter.

Wednesday 7:23 pm - Groundhog Day (time loop) concludes! - I was at the shop almost all day and completed the last quarter of #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental, the puzzle is truly one of my major puzzles with Creative style cutting, I think it will be well received at the Puzzle Parley!

So the puzzle cutting Marathon, my last strenuous one, comes to an end! E-N-D! There is still a bit of work to do to wrap this puzzle up. Tomorrow morning I'll sand the back, repair a few tiny chip-outs on the back, take lots of pictures, bring the puzzle home, take more pictures, take the puzzle apart, count the pieces, import the digital photos, select the best and prepare a presentation, write up detailed instructions on all aspects of the sealed bid auction, send out the emails to everyone on the 100 Puzzles Project mailing list, makes some void repairs (I hit one void while cutting the puzzle, not serious, but several pieces need to be re-enforced) and then reassemble the puzzle as I'll be bringing the puzzle assembled to the Puzzle Parley. Then I'll be done! I suspect assembling the puzzle will take me into Friday. I will take Saturday and Sunday off. I plan to cut #813, the December eBay puzzle on Monday. This will leave me with two orders to fill in November after I return from the Puzzle Parley and just one in December. I do plan to announce my availability for several small Christmas / holiday puzzles in December.

I'll have the official pictures for #812, Chrysanthemums Oriental and the piece count here sometime tomorrow.
