Investigation of Cellular Automata End-States

Although black and white, this image was created in Color Expansions. First, a uniform tessellation was grown (the background pattern of squares and six-sided shapes). Then a square area of the pattern was selected and subjected to a prolonged Thicken-Hollow cellular automata iteration until the iteration stabilized in a repeated sequence. Different sizes of the background pattern were selected and iterated generating the shapes shown.
