As it happened (from my Journal archives)
December 1, 2000 (very late, edited)
Made puzzle #63, a 9 11/16" by 7 11/16" 171 piece Swirl Curl puzzle of a painting by local artist L. Wilkes who is displaying her work along with other artists at an Afro-Centric two day event hosted by the art co-op where I rent space for my shop (Mixed Media Art Studio and Gallery). I decided to make this puzzle for the event.
L. Wilkes has both Native American and African-American heritage so she combined these two elements in her painting, titled "Self Portrait". The puzzle has two figurals - a Wiener Dog (lower left) and a Rabbit (lower right). My standard signature piece is hidden in the wall. The rabbit first appeared in #21 (The Road - Winter) and was designed by L. Wilkes for me at my request (the only Figural in all of my puzzles to date not designed by me) - so I thought it appropriate to place the Rabbit in this puzzle. The puzzle is a nice "starter" puzzle, with the wall being a moderate challenge to put together. The faces and shoulders of the three people are color line cut. Like puzzle #39 I've included this as a "Gallery Puzzle" - eventually I'll have a section for "Guest Artists" in the Gallery - as #39 and #63 need a home.
