Six Piece Compulsory #11
With stand
For pricing, see Compulsory
Beside jigsaw puzzles, I have made a some "Art Objects". One class of "Art objects" I call "Compulsories". I'm including this one here in the "chain" of Puzzle pictures because this one was auctioned off as the 36th puzzle in the100 Puzzles Project. Compulsories are not assigned regular puzzle numbers. I made Six Piece Compulsory #11 after completing puzzle #545 and before making #546. See Compulsories for information about the origin of the name and pictures of other Compulsories.

As it happened (from my Journal archives)
May 29, 2004
8:37 pm - I most of the day designing and making a Compulsory Stand. I had to make quite a few compromises in the "version 1.0" Compulsory Stand design, mostly due to limitations of my equipment and perhaps due to my extreme novice status in wood working other than making puzzles. Walnut is a beautiful wood, and cuts very well on a table saw. Initially I wanted the Stand to be cut from a single piece of wood; I ended up cutting three pieces and then gluing them together. I spent about six hours on the Stand. The next one should take a lot less time.

4:04 pm - Late last night I decided the Compulsory I cut yesterday was not good enough for the 100 Puzzles Project after all. The work will not be signed and will not be assigned a number. Today a created a new one, officially assigned #11; it is good enough, with several improvements, with some of the design elements roughly the same. The auction will start this evening, Pacific Time.
