As it happened (from my Journal archives)

September 1, 2008

Monday 1:03 pm - Went to the shop today to check on the status of the fence and while at it, prepare the board for the first puzzle of September. The first puzzle of September, #803, will be Panda-Monium, a K. Chin print. This will be #81 of the 100 Puzzles Project. I have moved this puzzle to the top of the list and pushed back a major creative puzzle to #804. Panda-Monium will have about 300 pieces and I plan to get to an early start tomorrow and do it in one day. After it is done I will continue working for the rest of the week with the goal of completing the seven Compulsories.

Tuesday 5:39 pm - I did mount the print for #803, Panda-Monium

Wednesday 4:06 pm - The for first time since July 25, I'm back to puzzle cutting. This morning I designed a wavy border for #803, Panda-Monium, a figural set, and this afternoon cut the border, the initial subdivisions and about 25% of the puzzle. Cutting going well, as if I never skipped a day! I plan to complete the puzzle tomorrow and launch the auction on Friday. Hot in the shop, about 95.

Thursday 10:33 pm - Cutting for puzzle #803, Panda-Monium, is complete. Cutting went well, although the paper, which I call "K. Chin" paper, the kind he used for some of the limited edition prints (not the mass produced prints) is not the best: I had several intra-layer paper lifts which required microscopic dabs of glue to repair. As this is "normal" for some papers, not worth mentioning in the upcoming action. I will need to carefully inspect all the pieces. The piece count is very close to 300, I will have the official total tomorrow when I launch the auction, plus pictures of the puzzle and the figurals.

From the auction description:

This puzzle, Panda-Monium, uses a print by the late K. Chin, an artist I frequently feature in the Project. This picture is one of K. Chin's "cute" pictures and complements We Have to Believe In Rainbows, a puzzle I auctioned way back in June 2000 in what eventually was defined as the third puzzle of the 100 Puzzles Project.

This puzzle has exactly 300 pieces, cut in the Swirl Style. The pieces are small. There are four figurals and just a very, very tiny bit of color line cutting. This puzzle includes my standard signature piece (signed, dated and numbered on the back) and a second piece (the Unicorn figural) marked on the back indicating the puzzle belongs to the 100 Puzzles Project. The puzzle is a not a difficult puzzle to assemble as there are many distinctive areas of color. The puzzle has a wavy border in order to keep the puzzle from being overly simple!

The lithograph was printed in 1981 or shortly thereafter.
